Oleophobic & Hydrophobic Coating

Oleophobic & Hydrophobic Coating

Oleophobic and Hydrophobic Coating

Oleophobic & hydrophobic coating is a type of Broadband Anti Reflective (BBAR) coating that resists water, oil, smudges and fingerprints. It is ideal for touchscreens including laptops, TVs, computer monitors, other indoor/outdoor displays, smartphones, tablets and smartwatches.

EMF’s oleophobic and hydrophobic coating is a BBAR coating specially formulated and developed to maximize quality and deliver optimal spectral performance. EMF can coat glass or plastic substrates up to 36″ diameter or 12″ x 30″ rectangular plates on EMF-sourced or customer supplied substrates.

How Hydrophobic and Oleophobic Coatings Work

Hydrophobic Coating

Hydrophobic propertiesA hydrophobic coating, when applied to a surface, e.g. your eyeglasses, works by making the surface repel water molecules. A hydrophobic coating weakens the surface bond among the water droplets and the surface. This lets the water droplets stay away from lens surface.

Typical performance is measured to be 109-112° contact angle when evaluated using de-ionized (DI) water.

Oleophobic Coating

Anti-Fingerprint Oleophobic CoatingAn oleophobic coating, when applied to a surface e.g. your smartphone display, provides a certain amount of fingerprint and smudge resistance to the display. Although it’s not fingerprint-proof, it keeps the oils and grease preventing it from adhering to the glass.

Typical performance is measured to be 63-67° contact angle when evaluated using hexadecane solution.

EMF’s oleophobic and hydrophobic coatings have been assessed for and meet the durability requirements of MIL-C-675-C.

4.5.10: Severe Abrasion (eraser rub)
4.5.12 Adhesion (fast tape pull)

* Following the indicated eraser rub test, the DI water contact angle decreases by 10°.

On plastic substrates the coating meets 4.5.11, Moderate Abrasion (cheese cloth rub.)
